    Spring Concert: Preparatory String and Repertory Orchestras

    Conducted by Ashley E. Rhoden and Ginger R. Greer, this special concert will feature the Preparatory String and Repertory Orchestras.

    The concert will be held in Daniel Recital Hall, located in Furman University's Daniel Music Building.  Admission is free and open to the public.

    Senior Honors Concert

    Join us at Furman University’s McAlister Auditorium on Sunday, May 5 at 3pm for the Carolina Youth Symphony (CYS) Senior Honors Concert as we celebrate 34 amazing seniors with a combined 98 years in the CYS!

    Conducted by Simón A. Gollo, James F. Kilgus, and Ginger R. Greer, the Senior Honors Concert will feature the Symphony, Concert and Repertory Orchestras performing works by Arlen, Brahms, Márquez, Moncayo, Musella, Offenbach, and Williams.  The concert will also feature Senior Soloist Anya Barringer performing Wieniawski’s Violin Concerto No. 2.  This concert is generously sponsored by Foster Victor Wealth Advisors.

    *CYS Members receive two complimentary tickets to this concert, which can be picked up at the dress rehearsal or immediately prior to the concert. Contact carolinayouthsymphony@gmail.com for questions about complimentary Member tickets.*

    Tickets may be purchased at the door (cash/check) or online via Eventbrite.

    CD, DVD, and/or Blu-ray orders may be placed by scanning the QR code located in the concert program.

AUDITION INFORMATION

35th Annual Young Artist Concerto Competition

Carolina Youth Symphony's 35th Annual Young Artist Concerto Competition was held on Tuesday, December 12, 2023 at Furman University. We are pleased to announce the following winners:

PIANO DIVISION:
- 1st Place: Henry Sun of Greer, SC. Henry attends Riverside High School and is a student of Lisa Kiser of Greenville, SC.
- 2nd Place: Yuchen Lin of Pelzer, SC. Yuchen attends Augusta Preparatory Day School and is a student of Lisa Kiser of Greenville, SC.
- 3rd Place: Nathan Wicker of Greer, SC. Nathan attends Riverside High School and is a student of Lisa Kiser of Greenville, SC.

ORCHESTRAL DIVISION:
- 1st Place: Sara Miller, Violin, of Greenville, SC. Sara attends Wade Hampton High School and the Fine Arts Center. She is a student of Rebecca Aguirre of Greer, SC.
- 2nd. Place: Kate Tolchinsky, Oboe, of Simpsonville, SC. Kate attends the SC Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities and is a student of Petrea Warneck of Greenville, SC.
- 3rd Place: Gavril Tiburcio, Violin, of Dillion, SC. Gavril attends the SC Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities and is a student of Deirdre Hutton of Greenville, SC.

First-place winners in both divisions received a $500 award and performed their competition pieces with the Carolina Youth Symphony in a full formal concert on Sunday, March 3, 2024, at 4:00pm in Furman’s McAlister Auditorium. All finalists were also recognized and presented with award plaques on stage at the concert.
